HI, I'MÂ DR. MOM
I grew up in and around Toronto, Ontario, surrounded by a large extended family. I have one sibling, an older sister, who currently does public health research and quality improvement work in Toronto. From an early age, I was interested in science, music and people. I completed my undergraduate degree in biochemistry and psychology at the University of Toronto in 2009. Although there was a time when I dreamt about becoming an organic chemist, I eventually realized how special a career in medicine would be. I started medical school in Syracuse, New York in 2010 and moved to Binghamton, NY in 2012 for my clinical years. While in Binghamton, I met some really great people, including a patient, helicopter-flying family doc who really showed me how to love primary care. And the rest is history…. well, almost anyways!
I completed Family Medicine residency at the University of Rochester Medical Center in Rochester, NY. While there, I learned how to practice full-scope academic family medicine within a high-needs and fast-paced environment. I also gained an appreciation for the need for quality improvement and physician leadership within health organizations.
I currently reside in Washington, DC, where I recently completed Geriatric Medicine fellowship training (and a lot of house calls!) with a group based out of Washington Hospital Center/Georgetown University SOM.
I have special interests in psychiatry, geriatrics, medical management and LGBTQ health. In my spare time (which isn’t much anymore), you can find me reading about the world, practicing my trumpet, eating great Antiguan food, laughing, trying to juggle, or naturally, having a power nap.
I’m really excited about what family and geriatric medicine have in store for me- from the long-term relationships to the fast-paced and versatile career that they will afford me. I am thrilled to be living in Washington and grateful for the opportunity to be situated at the cross-roads of healthcare change. I’m not sure what the future will hold, but I’m open to new challenges and experiences in medicine. After all, isn’t this what being a doctor is about?
